- This modem NEEDS the software to run. It is an AT&T CONTROLLERLESS chipset
- (don't know the trademark name). Unlike RPI which just has error correction
- and compression in software- the whole controller is in software. If you don't
- install the software, there is no modem! BTW, a friend of mine bought the
- modem from The Wiz, when he had a problem (the phone cords wouldn't stay in
- the socket) - the salesperson there said that they (The Wiz) were recalling it
- since about 50 people bought the modem on the first day of their sales and
- about 50 returned it within the next two days! Quite possible, Boca makes
- another v.34 modem (more expensive) with a better chipset.
